This book takes me back to a time that seems so different from today, that it's difficult to believe that many of the "characters" are people who are still around - living in our modern world. I love the way the author writes about a time and place in a way that helps me make sense of Florida, especially North Florida today. The author captures an essence of being in the south that I feel all the time (as a resident of Tallahassee), but can't easily put into words. It is a heart-warming tale that leaves me craving some of that old-time hospitality and love!
